Go Coupon Book

We bought the Go Coupon book through a fundraiser for the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce.

It cost $5 and so far we've used it to go out to eat once. The money we saved with the one coupon paid for the coupon book plus half of daycare for the night.

The website lists all the businesses, mostly south Pinellas.

Mimi's Cafe

I joined Mimi's Cafe e-club. Mimi's is one of my favorite lunch spots in Tampa (and Lakeland). With my first email I received a coupon for a free breakfast entree! YUM!

Save some $, use less energy - Line dry your clothes

Just got done hanging my laundry and there were emails from Since the abundant Florida sunshine has started it's an obvious way to cut down on the electricity bill.

The blurb below came from

2008 Comeback Stories: Clotheslines, live and let dry!
by Sarah Gilbert Mar 7th 2008 @ 4:15PM
Filed under: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Simplification

This post is part of our series on people, places and things than have found new life in 2008.

When I'm bored, I come up with taglines for the clothesline movement. They have "right to dry," but I prefer the very British "Hang it all!" or the Bondsian "Live and let dry."

The clothesline movement? You might be asking. Umm, we need one of those? Yes, yes we do. You see, it comes down to this idea in the middle of the 20th century in America that the ownership of a machine to do -- well, anything -- was a banner of respectability. Washing dishes, blending your non-dairy whipped topping, mowing your lawn, drying your clothes: power 'em with fossil fuels or be one of the unwashed masses.

We don't want that in our neighborhoods, said the rather small-time powers-that-be, and many communities wrote a ban on outdoor clothes drying along with the removal of livestock and various more hateful bans. One such neighborhood was Awbrey Butte, Oregon, where a resident was threatened with legal action when she chose to flout the CC&Rs and hang her clothes out to dry in the plentiful warm summer sun. She might have done better with this fanciful (and spendy) clothes drying "tree."

Watch out, neighborhood boards, homeowner associations, town councils. Because the clothesline is coming back. Many of my friends now consider the last rains of spring to herald "drying weather," and extoll the fresh scent of line-hung laundry, along with the savings on their power bill and the nice feeling of appropriate use of one's precious resources. And if you want my opinion? I like the way clothes look, hung out to dry. The comeback of clotheslines is a win, win, win!

Aubrey Organics

There aren't exactly a lot of opportunites to put the treatise of buy local into action in pinellas county since nothing's made here but there is this cosmetics co. in Tampa, Aubrey Organics. I've always bought their baby body wash for Finn and really like it.

You can find their products at health food stores.

If you sign up for their newsletter, they'll send you coupons for their online store.

Rumor has it that Publix will have a $5 off when you spend $35 in this weeks mailing. It is good until July 30th. I really hope we get this here in Florida. Publix offers 1 cent deals and doubles and triples coupons in other states but not here in Florida.

Editted to add...nope, no coupon here in Florida. Knowing that Publix offer such great deals elsewhere but not here in the State where they are based makes me want to quit shopping there!

Juicy Juice Sippy Cup

I don't remember where I found the link to this but wanted to pass it on. When James and I went to the mailbox this afternoon we found a package from Juicy Juice. They sent us a sippy cup just for signing up for their kids club. The timing could not have been better. The package in the mail and then opening the package and finding that sippy cup was a good distraction from the crying fit James was having at the moment.

BPA Bottle Buy Back at BRU

Today (Sunday) I returned 10 Dr. Brown's bottles to my BRU in Clearwater, FL. These bottles were purchased 18-24 months ago and I did not have a receipt. I called first and spoke with a manager who said yes they would take them. When I got to the store the cashier asked the nearest manager (not the one I spoke to on the phone) about it but she didn't want to refund them saying that there was not a recall on the bottles. The person I spoke with on the phone was not in the store when I went (just 30 minutes after my phone call. I think he was outside on a break) When I said I had called and been told they would take them back the female manger relented and gave the cashier the okay. They gave me credit for 3-3 packs and a single. The total was $47.04. I was saving the bottles in case we have a second baby but I wouldn’t use those bottles again anyway because of the BPA.

For more see Freebies 4 Mom

It seems that some BRU and TRU are taking them but the majority are not. Some people have contacted the BRU head office and been told that they are NOT taking these bottles back. See the comments section of Freebies4mom for more information.

CVS Visit #3

So, I am finally understanding why people get hooked on CVSing. This was third trip in as many weeks. I was able to buy some things I already use regularly and spend very little. I waited until Saturday to go because I just wasn't organized enough to go earlier in the week. All of the tags for the current week had been removed so I was worried about getting the correct price but a manager at the first store I went to assured me that the prices would still ring up correctly and they did!

Here is what I bought:

1 Dial Soap (3 pack), $1.99, -.60 Mfg. QPN
1 Garnier Fructis Conditioner, $2.99, -1.00 Mfg. QPN
1 Garnier Fructis Shampoo, $2.99, -1.00 Mfg. QPN
1 Clear Care (2-12 oz pack), $13.99

I used a $5.00/$15.00 from iheartcvs (but now I can not find them on her site(edit: )) and $16.97 in ECB and made $6.00 in ECB. My OOP was $2.38. The best part is that I actually made money on this transaction today because the Clear Care has a rebate of $9.00.

Diaper Deals

I love this post by Kristen at BeCentsAble that gives you the best diaper deals with coupons!

There were some great coupons in Sundays paper for Huggies Diapers, baby soaps and shampoos. If you didn't get the Sunday paper you might want to see if you can get the coupons from someone who did.

I recently purchased the All You magazine from Wal-Mart. It cost me $1.99 locally but I know it sells elsewhere for $1.79. I still think it was worth the money because of all the coupons inside. There was a Colgate $1.50 off and a free Adidas Deodorant coupon.

19 cent diapers at Wal-Mart

I went to Wal-Mart on Hwy 19 at Coachman Rd. this afternoon and found a good deal on Pampers Baby Dry. They had all of the size 2, 3, 4 and 5 marked down to $14.00. I bought 2 packages of the size 4, 68 count, diapers for $14.00 then used a $2.00 off coupon when you buy 2 packs. It was 20 cents each before the coupon and 19 cents per diaper with the coupon. Not too bad for Pampers. The larger boxes of Pampers were not marked down only the smaller sizes.

Wal-Mart also had all of their White Cloud brand diapers marked down. 124, size 2, White Clouds were $10.00 (12 cents per diaper) although they did not ring up this way. I had to get the head cashier to give me the correct price. The woman in line behind me was very perturbed that it was taking so long but unless she wants to pay for my stuff she can just wait!

Deal on Boudreaux’s Butt Paste

My friend KaleighMarie said that Boudreaux’s Butt Paste rings up at $8.99 for the big tub that is normally $16.99 at the Super Target on Gulf to Bay. There is a $1.00 off coupon out there that I can't find right now but even without the coupon it's a great deal!

CVS coupon and register you get it free for 7 days and in the search on the left put in cvs/pharmacy and click on pg 128 and scroll down and there is a coupon to print out. Hover over the print button and click print custom area and start in the corner and drag till you highlight the coupon and then print! As many as you need!

Walgreens and RR

Has anyone found a Walgreens around them that will let you buy gift cards with the RR? I asked 2 places around me and, Main st. dunedin, Sunset Pt. and Belcher, and they haven't done that yet. The one on Sunset was a little rude, he was almost hateful for us moms trying to save $! Our RR say May exclude so the option is out there!

There is a malt o meal IP for $1.50 and $1 I was able to print 2 of each. You can print multiple coupons sometimes by clicking the back arrow. At Albertson they have there 3 day sale (fri, sat, and sun.) for 3/$7 bags of malt o meal cereal and get a gallon of milk (up to $4) free. So you pay $3.50 for 3 bags of cereal and gallon of milk!

I will be figuring out my plan to cvs today and will let you know! Wish me luck! (It scares me!) LOL!

I went to walgreens last night and it went really well. I purchased on my first transaction the smart start cereal for 4/$10 used 2 $3 off 2 coupons and got it $4 oop and got back $2 RR.

2. I bought 4 dove minis used 2 Buy 1 Get 1 free coupons and then 2 $1.50 coupons, and the $1 off 2 from the easy saver (which took off $2), so that came to $1, then I got 2 colgate max toothpastes, used a $1 coupon and a .75 coupon plus the easy saver and got both for .25. and i got the buy one get one vitamins for 8.99. So my total was $11.36 used 10 RR (that I got from last weeks deals) and pd $1.36 oop!

Tonight I plan to go to another Walgreens (they ran out of the vitamins at this store) to do

3. Two vitmins at 8.99 plus Pert plus with $1 coupon and get a rebate receipt to get $2.50 back. And use $10 RR So out of pocket will only be a couple dollars.

4. Two vitamins at 8.99, Breath Right strips 3.99 use $3 easy saver coupon, (.99) then get 4 Cottenelle wipes at 2/$4 which will make them $8. I got 2 save $2 on 2 from the catalina when I bought the charmin last week, and use 3 .50 coupons which will make them $2.50 for 4 packs. I will use the last of my $10 RR and pay only a few dollars out of pocket!

CVS Try 2

So, I went to CVS today and it went much better this week than last week. For $1.51 I purchased 3 Colgate toothpaste tubes, 1 Aquafresh, 1 Schick Intuition razor and 3 Soy Joy bars. I used $10 ECBs and made $14.99 ECBs. I used coupons for everything plus the "get $4 off when you spend $20" CVS coupon.

I also searched several CVS stores looking for the Hawaiian Tropic Lip balm. Finally, at the 3rd (in Trinity, about 30 minutes from my house (I had to go up there anyway)) store I found it and earned $10 ECBs there. If I had been better organized I could have used some ECBs to cover the cost ($1.99 each) but I wasn't well organized so I just paid it out of pocket.

Between the 3 transactions at CVS in two weeks I have spent about $22 and currently have about $20 in ECBs to spend. Not to bad but I am not thrilled with purchasing stuff I would not normally purchase. I will stick with it over the next few weeks and if I can continue to have very little out of pocket it will be worth it to stock up on things.

(Edited to add MamaSavesMoney found the Hawaiian Tropic lip balm at a store in Dunedin at the corner of 580 and Keene/CR1)

Free card stock/scrap paper for scrapbooking

Ok first let me say that I had started this project back in 2000 when I got married! I ordered all of these catalogs for ideas for wedding invitations. I would then pick a few and order samples to be mailed to me to review-I then thought it would be great to save these samples and use them for scrap paper, borders etc for photos and scrapbooking. I have a small box full of freebies that I am currently using. I am going to contact some current companies and try and pick more child friendly backgrounds and colors to use for my baby boy scrapbook that I am working on. I will post more later once I see some results. Happy scrapping!

CVSing attempt (Stacy)

So I tried going to CVS today and it just didn't work like I expected.

I purchased:

Venus Embrace Razor, $9.99 on sale, -$4.00 coupon, $5.00 ECB, total 0.99
Colgate 360 Toothbrush, $3.99, -$1,00 coupon, $3.99 ECB, total overage of $1.00

If I had only purchased those 2 things t would have been okay.

CVS Petroleum Jelly, $3.49
Good N Plenty, $0.88

and the real disappointment was Zyrtec for Children. Walgreen's advertised it at $5.49 and CVS matched the price but I bought the wrong kind and did not earn any ECB's. I think I am going to return the Zyrtec. I only purchased it because I thought I was going to get ECB's and because I wanted to James to try it.

My total OOP was $17.89 and I earned $8.99 in ECBs. I didn't realize that you can not carry over any ECB's. So in order to use my ECB that says $5.00 I have to use the whole $5.00 at once.

I am interested to read what others have bought with ECB's. I know Laurie had some success with CVSing. Hopefully she will post about it and Heather will post about some of her great ideas on how to get paper for scrap booking from invitation makers.
